I'm a fan of Style Sheets
Style sheets separate the content from the design,
Updating the look of the website is as easy as changing
values on one page. This changes the look of all your pages...it's a
good deal! Scroll down to check out how easy it is for me to
change my site to reflect my most recent artwork.
I'm also a fan of 'fluid' design. if you minimize my pages,
you'll see that the site resizes to fit whatever size the clients
screen allows...
My pages are graphic intensive, so they take awhile to load, I'm an
artist so it's expected, but in general, I believe simple is better for
fast page loads, I like to load graphics in the background with the
home page and that makes pages load blazing fast because the images are
already in the browsers cache.

Every business should have at least an informational website,
this is a site that just promotes your business: location, hours,
contact information, types of services or retail your business conducts.
Retail businesses should have some sort of transactional website: make
a purchase easy, there are numerous ways to support a transactional
website, I prefer paypal simply because it's free to set up, you can
accept credit cards without the hassle of renting or buying credit card
machines.
If you have email... you can sell stuff online, how great is
that?
I do website design by the page price varies depending upon
the scope of the site, for instance a transactional website (one where
you can sell stuff) will cost more, if I have to do graphics design,
that will cost more, if I have to train how to use, that will cost
more...etc
